Description: In preparation for the spring/summer paddling season, and in cooperation with the Friends of West Neck Creek and Lynnhaven River Now, the TATC Amphibious Trail Crew will work on cleaning up West Neck Creek.
Creek-bank blow-downs and submerged snags trap floating alligator grass and debris that can form bank-to-bank "rafts" that make the creek impassible. By tackling the problem before alligator grass recovers fully from the winter die-back, we can clear away blow-downs and snags before thick growths of alligator grass make it difficult to get to them.

Much of the work can be done from a boat, but some work will require getting out of the boats to work in knee-deep to hip-deep water or on muddy creek banks. By March 21, we hope that the water will have warmed up somewhat but wet suits, waders, or hip boots would be a good idea for those who will work in the water or from the shore.

The McClenny family, creek-side property owners, have agreed to let
us to launch from their property which is closer to the areas of the creek that need work than our previous put-in at the Dozier Bridge.

Bring your own watercraft (canoes, kayaks, john boats) and tools
(saws, loppers, ropes, grappling hooks, rakes, etc.) to 2220 Indian River Road (west side of the West Neck Creek Bridge). Plan on arriving by 9:30 AM so that we can off-load boats and put-in by 10:00 AM. PFDs are required.

Dress for the weather AND be sure to bring a spare set of dry clothes in a dry bag... just in case. As usual, we'll plan to eat out afterwards.
