This will be the last ATC event of the year before air/water temperatures drop too low for paddling without wetsuits. This clean-up will focus on the 3 mile portion of West Neck Creek from Dozier Bridge south to Indian River Road. Objectives are (1) collect trash in the creek and on the creek banks, (2) clear any blow downs and "trash rafts" that may block the way of paddlers on the creek and (3) prevent the formation of future "trash rafts" by clearing snags from the channel and trimming creek-bank vegetation.
Where: Dozier's Bridge Kayak Launch Click here for Dozier's Bridge Kayak Launch map link
Required Equipment: You must provide your own boat and paddling gear including to PFDs which must be worn while on the water. Bring grabbers, rakes, saws, etc. to collect the clean-up trash and cut back blow downs and vegetation.
To sign-up contact: John Oakes, john.oakes@1970.usna.com. (757) 748-8560 I will scout the creek a week before the clean-up and send e-mail to all who have signed up to give them a better idea of what to expect.
