The peninsula is well known for historical landmarks, but some of them are hidden in plain sight. Spend the first day of the new year with us as we step back in time. If you're into hiking and history, or one of those two - this one is for you and you're sure to learn something new.

Civil War Peninsula Campaign 

After defeat at First Bull Run, The Army of the Potomac tries another way to take Richmond & end the war--a huge operation that became the largest movement of men and war materials up until that time: over 340 vessels were used to transport 120,000 men 1,500 horses, 1,100 wagons, 44 artillery batteries, ammunition, and provisions down the Potomac and across the Chesapeake to Fort Monroe.
